To celebrate the International Day of Sport for Athletes with an Intellectual Impairment on 3 December, Italy’s 60m indoor world champion Raffaele Di Maggio had this to say:

“Raffaele Di Maggio, how did you start practicing athletics?
Answer: At school I met my professor – Scarpa – and then I’ve started training and competition at Giochi Sportivi Studenteschi. Later I’ve started being part of my national team and this is a wonderful feeling being part of the team and having new relationships and friendships. I won the indoor Championships (in 2016).
Question: How has sport changed your life after the beginning of you career in athletics?
Answer: It’s a fantastic sensation and it helps me even at school, where I have new friends“
