My two cents on dating gay men with HIV…

  1. 20% of gay men have HIV. That's 1 in every 5 men. 92% of new HIV patients got it from people who didn't know they had it. It takes 3 months to get an accurate test on HIV.

There's a study on HIV+ undetectable people and negative partners: https://www.poz.com/article/HPTN-052-transmission-27517-8582.

It's highly unlikely that an undetectable person would pass on the virus to their partner who is on PreP. You're probably safer dating an undetectable guy than a "negative" guy who is irresponsible.

I don't blame the guy for acting that way. If I were him I probably would be offended by an offer of "friendship". It doesn't come off as genuine. Someone with HIV wouldn't want to waste time with that. Most guys really want to put their energy on a healthy relationship and someone who genuinely loves them. If I was diagnosed with HIV, the first thought would be "who would want to be with me now?" That's something to think about.

  2. I think as a society, we are all still so ignorant about HIV and everything that goes with it. With that being said you have a right to date and be with whomever you want xoxo
